Traditional Undergraduate Mentoring
Welcome Mentors! We hope this page will be a valuable resource to you in advising traditional undergraduate students. The student-faculty relationship is at the center of the undergraduate experience and one of the most important keys to student success in college.
Freshmen Mentors and the Collegium Program
Freshmen mentors carry the primary responsibility for academic advising during the freshmen year. Every new freshman will automatically become a member of a small group of approximately 20 other freshmen we call a "collegium." Freshmen mentors guide collegium members through their first year by:
- helping them select classes for the freshmen year
- approving courses on their EdPlan
- orienting them to FPU
- organizing numerous social activities including the Casa Pacifica weekend retreat.
Mentors meet with students each semester for advising before registration opens. For assistance in approving EdPlans and helping students with WebReg, please visit our tutorial or contact the Registrar's Office at 559-453-2037.
Major/Minor Mentors
Major and minor mentors advise students with program planning leading up to commencement. Mentors also assist students with WebReg each semester. In addition to advising, mentoring also consists of encouraging the development of the whole person, including spiritual, social and physical aspects.
