Confidentiality

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records.

Release of Confidential Information - Students may use this form to release information like their grade point average. This form is also needed when students request that faculty write a letter of recommendation.

Directory Information

At its discretion, Fresno Pacific University may release the following information (called directory information) to the public or to the specific audience indicated without specific approval from students:

  • Awards, honors
  • Birthday, not incuding year
  • Class attendance information (for class use)
  • Class roster (for class use)
  • Class standing (e.g. freshman, admitted to a master's program)
  • Dates of attendance and/or semesters attended
  • Degrees and/or certificates conferred, including conferral dates
  • Eligibility for commencement ceremonies
  • Enrollment status (e.g., full-time, part-time)
  • FPU email address (for class use)
  • Hometown of participants in co-curricular activities
  • Major field of study (e.g., undergraduate major, graduate program)
  • Name
  • Names of previous institutions attended
  • Past and present participation in officially recognized co-curricular activities (e.g., sports, music, drama)
  • Photograph
  • Physical factors (athletes only)

Students may choose to block disclosure of this information by completing the Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information form.

Students have the right to file complaints with the Department of Education, concerning alleged failures by Fresno Pacific University to comply with FERPA.

FERPA Training for FPU Staff & Faculty

The following three steps ensure a thorough understanding of FERPA.

  1. View the FERPA presentation (15 minutes).
  2. Read basic information: faculty or staff.
  3. Submit completed certificate to your supervisor.
